Still Life with Blood Orange | Mixed Media Painting by Ann Ravenshield
I was first introduced to the concept of mixed media painting by the late Ian Sime back in the 80's whilst he was imparting to me as much of his vast wealth of artistic knowledge and techniques, as humanly possible. I am still grateful to him for his encouragement back then, following my first few years out of uni. The mediums I use today are different, mainly because what was used back then is no longer available. However the inspiration is as fresh as if it was only yesterday!
This painting is the first of my revisitations to metal foiled panelling techniques. Ian would have used aphixotropic gel resin, very stinky stuff and had to be diluted from it's gel form. I had it alot easier these days with regular gold leafing size and multiple paint/varnish layers.
The blood orange was painted from life, in a contemporary style, without one light direction, which is found in the more traditional style. The reasoning for this is due to the fact that our lighting conditons have changed and it is now the norm to have rooms lit with multiple sources of lighting.
I have used acrylic medium for painting and the work is finished with my signature style foiled border treatment, so there is no need for framing. Comes fitted with D-rings and professional picture wire.
